As I was shutting down all of the Phoole & the Gang equipment after Show #432 (Adulterated 80s) Friday before last, Traktor didn't shut down; it just crashed.
I didn't think anything of it at the time - apps crash sometimes! Traktor doesn't usually crash, but many of the other apps I use crash from time to time while I'm quitting them. VDMX/VidVox, the app I use to manage my visuals, crashes on exit once every couple of months. OBS, the app I use for broadcasting, crashes on exit about as often.
Last week, when I went to open Traktor for the first time since Show #432, Traktor...didn't have my music library in it anymore. All my playlists were gone, and all my settings were reset to factory issue.
Have I been backing up my music MacBook routinely? Reader, I have not.
I am now in the process of restoring all of my library, lists and settings. Traktor is in the process of analyzing over 25,000 tunes; it has been working around the clock for a day, and should be done in a couple of hours. Once my library and playlists are back - I hope my playlists come back! - I can work on meticulously recalibrating deck gains.
The moral of this story is BACK UP YER STUFF, and I need to take my own advice on this more seriously! All will be well enough. I didn't realize how much I had modded settings on Traktor to get my very specific, comfortable-to-me deck setup. I should have documented more. I won't fail to document settings when I get them set this time around! I suppose it's amazing that this hasn't happened once yet in our ten years on-air.
