The Times, They Sure Are Unprecedented
Spring always gets me down - I tend to have a really difficult emotional time during the month of May, which is made worse by the weather generally getting better. The dissonance of cratering moods against a background of blooming plants and sun-shiny days coats the unhappiness in extra layers of anxiety. Missing out on performing in live, in-person events for another year is wearing on me hard - I have to avoid social media so I don't watch endless loops of almost everyone else I know rushing back to live, in-person gigs, followed by posts of "Wow, did anyone else get this super-mysterious powerful cold of utterly-baffling intensity and duration after that event?" for months.
It doesn't help that it's the year 2023, on the planet Earth, when the most powerful people have decided it's fine for the rest of us to die so that they don't have to rein in their rapacious resource-accumulation.
I need to remind myself that the circumstances of life today are daunting for everyone, especially those of us not diving into pandemic denial. It's like Cassian Andor's adoptive Dad said in that TV show I can't stop thinking about:
"The man who sees everything is more blessed than cursed."
I hope you are finding ways to give yourself time and space to be a whole person. I'm working on it myself!
